Break and Steal an Egg Trails Update — Speed Upgrades Removed

How the trail shop replaced Speed upgrades and why equipping still confuses returning players.

Trails Update — Speed Upgrades Removed

One of the most important systems changes in Break and Steal an Egg was not a new zone — it was the day Speed upgrades were removed and replaced by the Trails shop ladder. Returning players still join after a break, buy what looks like movement gear, skip the equip step, and swear the patch “broke Speed.” The patch did not break Speed. It changed the multiplier layer, and every guide on this wiki assumes you know that history.

This update post explains what changed, lists the trail ladder from White (2x, $500) through Moonlight (10k), and shows how the change interacts with treadmill training, zone Recommended Speed gates, and later Galaxy-era systems. For the live shop table and quirks, use the full trails guide. For farm routines, open how to get Speed. Timeline context sits on the Updates Hub.

What was removed

Before trails, accounts leaned on a more direct Speed upgrade purchase path. That layer was taken out. After the change:

  • You cannot progress movement the old upgrade-shop way.
  • You buy Trails with Pen Cash.
  • You must equip the Trail for treadmill multipliers to apply.
  • You still gain baseline Speed from free claims, Index rewards, and time on the pad — trails multiply the treadmill side of that stack.

If a friend sends you pre-trails advice (“just buy the next Speed level”), ignore it. Send them this page instead.

What was added — the trail ladder

Public shop progression players rely on:

TrailCostSpeed multiplier
White$5002x
Blue$7,5004x
Green$100,0008x
Purple$1.2M16x
Red$17.5M40x
Golden$250M100x
Rainbow$3.5B250x
Galactic$45B600x
Secret$600B1.5k
Laser$8T4k
Moonlight$100T10k

White is the mandatory early buy after free like/favorite Speed. Moonlight is the endgame multiplier people flex before Galaxy Secret pulls. Everything between is a negotiation with pickaxes, Pen income, and honesty about Recommended Speed gates on zones.

The equip requirement (still the #1 ticket)

Ownership ≠ equipped. After every purchase:

  1. Open the Trail menu.
  2. Equip the new Trail (or confirm best remains active).
  3. Step on the treadmill.
  4. Recheck after deaths, server hops, or long shop sessions.

A Moonlight Trail in inventory multiplies nothing. A White Trail equipped and trained can carry early Desert banks. This single rule explains most “Speed is broken” Discord messages after the update.

Blue before Green — progression trap the update made visible

With a full trail ladder on display, players often stare at Green ($100k, 8x) and skip Blue ($7.5k, 4x). The update made the shop feel like a prestige list; it is still a cost curve. Normal accounts should buy Blue, equip, train, stabilize steals, then fund Green. Skipping Blue creates a fake soft lock where Pen income never quite reaches the next vanity tier.

How trails changed zone climbing

Zone readiness is measured in Recommended Speed (Forest 5 → Galaxy 25B), not in whether you can see the next biome. Trails are how you reach those numbers on a human timetable. After the trails update:

  • Forest/Desert demand White/Blue discipline.
  • Snowy/Candy start expecting Green/Purple thinking.
  • Swamp through Blossom punish outdated mid trails on heavy carries.
  • Galaxy expects late multipliers plus pad time, not a potion-only bandage.

Potions added in later waves can stack on top of trails, but they do not restore the deleted Speed upgrade shop (potions, Galaxy update).

Interaction with treadmill and base loop

Trails multiply treadmill Speed. That made the Safe Zone pad non-optional. Post-update best practice:

  1. Buy Trail.
  2. Equip Trail.
  3. Train on the treadmill.
  4. Steal in a zone your Speed actually supports.
  5. Bank Cash in the Pen; buy the next Trail or pickaxe based on failure mode.

Base habits are covered in base upgrades. Cash routing after Pen income spikes sits in cash.

Free Speed still matters beside the shop

The trails update did not remove free claims. Like + favorite Speed to the right of the Trails Shop and group Community Rewards remain mandatory first steps — especially because redeem codes are still empty as of October 2026 (codes). Free Speed plus White Trail is the intended onboarding pair.

Returning-player recovery plan

If you last played when Speed upgrades existed:

  1. Ignore old upgrade muscle memory.
  2. Open Trails Shop; buy the cheapest missing early trail you can afford.
  3. Equip it immediately.
  4. Treadmill for a real block.
  5. Read trails for the full table and Blue-before-Green warning.
  6. Only then revisit Candy+ or Galaxy goals.
  7. Skim newer posts (Galaxy update, Admin Abuse) so you are not also missing merge/inventory changes.

Why this update still deserves its own page

Galaxy gets the screenshots; trails get the support tickets. Every later system — potions, Brutal Secret nests, Admin Abuse Speed bombs — assumes the trails multiplier layer is understood. Documenting the removal of Speed upgrades keeps the rest of the wiki coherent and stops Steal an Egg movement advice from leaking into this title’s economy.

Speed upgrades are gone. Trails are the multiplier now. Buy, equip, train — or the entire endgame ladder will feel permanently out of reach.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

Did Break and Steal an Egg remove Speed upgrades?

Yes. Trails replaced Speed upgrades. Buy a trail from the shop and equip it or the multiplier never applies.

What is the first trail I should buy?

White Trail at $500 for a 2x multiplier after claiming free like/favorite Speed. Then prioritize Blue before saving only for Green.

What is the top trail multiplier?

Moonlight costs $100T and grants a 10k multiplier. It is an endgame purchase for late zones like Galaxy.

Why is my new trail not making me faster?

It is probably unequipped, or you have not spent time on the treadmill since equipping. Ownership alone does nothing.

Where should I go after reading this update post?

Open the Trails guide for the live table, How to Get Speed for farm routines, and the Updates Hub for newer systems like Galaxy and potions.
