Break and Steal an Egg Animals & Pets Tier Strategy

What to keep in your Pen from first Forest hatch to Galaxy Secrets.

Animals Tier List

Animals — also called pets — are the cash engine of Break and Steal an Egg. You break an egg, press E to steal, escape the zone guardian, and place the critter in your Pen so it prints money while you plan the next run. This Animals Tier List ranks priorities by stage, not by a single forever S-tier thumbnail. A Forest Common can be correct at Speed 5 and useless at Ocean. Weight, merge value, and Index status change the answer every session.

Cross-link companions: hatch sources on the Eggs Tier List, duplicate sinks in Pet Merge, and milestone mindset on the Index Hub plus Index Rewards. Parent philosophy sits on the Tier List Hub.

Ranking criteria

CriterionWhy it matters
Income for your stageHighest $/s you can actually keep alive in Pen
Carry weightHeavier animals slow the return; failed steals earn $0
Index uniquenessNew logs unlock collection rewards
Merge fuelDuplicates may be worth more as merge input
Slot opportunity costEvery Pen slot not holding your best earner slows upgrades

Stage tiers

Early game (Forest → Snowy) — Speed 5 to 50k

S-tier goals: Any new Index entry; highest Common → Rare earner you can steal consistently; free Sabertooth Legendary from Community Rewards once claimed via Codes.

A-tier: Stable Desert Uncommons (Cactus / Bones line) that survive Medium NPC pressure.

B-tier: Extra Forest Commons after both Rock and Forest logs are done — keep only if Pen is empty.

D-tier mistakes: Ignoring trail equip, skipping treadmill, and chasing Snowy Yeti-line pets before you have break power or Speed buffer.

Early pets exist to buy Stone → Golden pickaxes and White → Green trails. Read Getting Started and How to Get Speed if cash feels frozen.

Mid game (Candy → Ocean) — Speed 750k to 150M

S-tier: Best Epic and Legendary Pen holders from Candy and Swamp; Mythic Ocean pets once escapes are reliable.

A-tier: Logged Legendaries you might merge later; Sabertooth remains useful until Ocean Mythics outpace it.

B-tier: Duplicate Epics — strong merge candidates after Index ticks.

C-tier: Pre-Candy pets still occupying slots out of habit.

Mid game is where inventory selling and pet merge start to matter. Do not sell an unlogged unique. Merge pairs when the machine yields a higher ceiling egg — details in Pet Merge. Steal technique for Extra Hard and Insane guards is covered in How to Steal.

Late game (Hell → Galaxy) — Speed 1B to 25B+

S-tier: Divine Hell pets, Cosmic Blossom pets, and Secret Galaxy animals (Sun / Starry / Blackhole lines) when you can land them past the hydra.

A-tier: High Mythic leftovers while you stabilize Hell routes.

B-tier: Merge fodder duplicates of already-Indexed late pets.

F-tier for Pen: Early Commons/Uncommons — sell or merge after logging.

Galaxy Secrets define the current income ceiling but only if pickaxe Power cracks the shell before the hydra ends the run. Pair this list with Pickaxes and Zones.

Income focus vs collection focus

Run income focus when your next shop row (trail or pickaxe) is blocked by cash. Keep the top three earners, dump the rest of the outdated slots, and repeat the safest high-rarity nest you can clear.

Run collection focus when shop goals can wait and Index milestones are close. Rotate egg names inside a zone (see the three-egg Candy, Swamp, Ocean, Hell, Blossom, and Galaxy sets on Eggs) until logs complete, then return to income focus.

Most efficient players alternate: two income runs, one collection sweep, merge cleanup, then shop.

Weight and steal success

Heavier animals reduce effective escape Speed. That is why the zone gate number is a minimum, not a comfort rating. If you repeatedly drop pets on the return:

  1. Equip a stronger trail (Trails).
  2. Train treadmill base Speed.
  3. Steal a lighter sibling egg in the same zone until your buffer grows.
  4. Practice a cleaner route — How to Steal.

A “higher tier” pet that never reaches the Pen is worth zero. Rank successful placements, not hatch screen rarity alone.

Merge strategy in tier language

After the merge update, duplicates of mid pets often outrank sitting idle as fourth-best earners.

  • Keep 1–2 of your best unique earners per rarity band.
  • Merge extras when the output egg targets a band you still want.
  • Sell trash Commons that are Indexed and not needed for merge recipes.
  • Never feed your only unlogged Legendary just to “try” the machine.

Merge results still need hatch time and Pen space — plan slots before you start combining.

Index synergy

Every new animal should be checked against the Index. Milestone rewards explained in Index Rewards can exceed a mediocre farming hour. The Index Hub expands on hygiene: log first, sell second, merge third.

Free Sabertooth remains one of the best early Index + income crossover picks because it skips the Swamp Speed wall.

StagePen idea
EarlyMix of highest Commons/Uncommons + Sabertooth when claimed
MidTop Epics/Legendaries; one flex slot for new Index targets
LateBest Divine/Cosmic/Secret earners; flex slot for Galaxy attempts

Adjust when patches retune income — watch Updates after potion, boss, or Galaxy balance notes.

Using the video on this page

The embedded walkthrough (kLU3w-gK01k) shows visual pet comparisons and stage talk that pairs with this text. Use it mid-session when you need a second opinion on what “looks” strong, then verify against your live Pen $/s and Index gaps. Videos age; tables on Eggs and patch notes win when they disagree.

Bottom line

There is no single best animal for every Break and Steal an Egg account. Tier by stage, respect weight, spend duplicates through merge, and treat Index logs as progress. When your bottleneck is eggs you cannot open, leave this page and upgrade pickaxes. When your bottleneck is dying on returns, fix Speed and steal routes. When your bottleneck is “I have pets but no plan,” use the stage tables above and rebuild the Pen in one Safe Zone visit.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

What is the best pet in Break and Steal an Egg?

It depends on stage. Early accounts want consistent Commons/Uncommons plus the free Sabertooth; endgame accounts chase Divine, Cosmic, and Galaxy Secret animals they can actually escape with.

Should I always keep the highest rarity pet?

Only if you can place it reliably. A heavy Secret that fails every return is worse than a lighter Legendary that pays all session.

When should I merge animals?

Merge duplicates after they are logged in the Index and when the output egg helps your current stage more than occupying a weak Pen slot.

How does weight affect tiers?

Higher weight slows escapes. Rank pets by successful Pen placements, not hatch rarity alone, and keep Speed above the zone gate.

Where do I see which eggs drop these animals?

Use the Eggs Tier List for zone nests and rarity bands, then return here for Pen and merge priorities.
