Break and Steal an Egg Index & Collection

Track every animal you discover, claim milestone value, and plan smarter Pens.

Last updated:

The Index is Break and Steal an Egg’s collection log — the long-term reason to visit every zone instead of only farming one profitable nest forever. This hub reframes the old “players” category as an Index & Collection center: what the Index is for, why completion still pays while you chase cash, and which wiki pages help you fill gaps without wasting Speed.

When you break an egg, steal with E, escape the guardian, and place the animal in your Pen, two economies move at once. Immediate cash per second funds pickaxes and trails. The Index records species you have discovered so milestone rewards and completion goals stay visible. Ignoring the Index turns the game into a pure treadmill; using it turns each new zone into a checklist with payouts.

Why fill the Index

  1. Milestone rewards — Discovering animals unlocks structured bonuses called out in-game and walked through in Index Rewards. Those spikes of cash or Speed often beat another hour of repeating a nest you already fully logged.
  2. Build awareness — The Index shows which rarities you still lack at each stage, so you stop guessing whether Forest Commons or Snowy Rares are the missing piece.
  3. Merge planning — After the pet merge update, duplicates of logged animals become fuel. Unlogged uniques should usually be registered before you feed them into the machine. See Pet Merge.
  4. Sell discipline — Inventory selling is great for outdated pets, terrible for unique entries you never opened in the Index. Check the log first.
  5. Endgame direction — Secret Galaxy pets and Cosmic Blossom finds are scarce. The Index makes “I am actually done with Hell” a measurable statement instead of a vibe.

How Index progress maps to zones

Snowy50,000RareWatch carry weight on Yeti-line nests
Candy750,000EpicMultiple egg types — clear each

Free Sabertooth Egg via Community Rewards still counts as Legendary collection progress without a Swamp clear — claim steps sit on Codes.

Collection strategy by stage

Early (Forest → Snowy)

Prioritize unique logs over perfect Pen optimization. Your cash ceiling is low until Diamond-tier pickaxes and mid trails appear. Use Getting Started and How to Get Speed so you can physically reach Desert and Snowy nests. Read Animals for which early pets are worth parking versus replacing.

Mid (Candy → Ocean)

Income pets start to matter more. Keep your best earners in the Pen, merge or sell duplicates that are already Indexed, and rotate steal targets toward missing Epic → Mythic entries. How to Steal and Eggs prevent you from dying on the same Rainbow nest without logging the sibling Candy eggs.

Late (Hell → Galaxy)

Treat Index gaps as raid objectives. Pop potions if you use them, equip your highest trail, and bring pickaxe power that can crack Secret shells in a reasonable time (Pickaxes, Trails). Boss and hydra pressure means failed runs are expensive — only attempt Galaxy Secrets when your Speed buffer is comfortable above 25B.

Index hygiene checklist

  1. After every successful steal, confirm the animal registered if it was new.
  2. Never mass-sell from inventory until uniques are logged.
  3. Claim Community Rewards Sabertooth early for a free Legendary tick.
  4. When Pen is full, replace lowest $/s among already-Indexed pets first.
  5. After Admin Abuse or Titanic egg events (Admin Abuse), re-open Index — giant variants may still relate to species tracking depending on patch behavior.
  6. Recheck Index Rewards when a patch mentions collection bonuses.

Relationship to “best pets” talk

Community videos love absolute “best pet” thumbnails. For Break and Steal an Egg, the truthful answer is stage-dependent: Forest Commons win when you have 5 Speed; Galaxy Secrets win when you can escape the hydra. This Index Hub exists so collection and income stay in conversation. Use Animals for the ranking narrative, and use this page to remember that unlogged rarities are progress, not clutter.

Official group and Discord links for patch-driven Index changes are listed on the Links Hub. Scripts that auto-place or auto-sell can accidentally dump unlogged pets — read the risk notes on Scripts before automating collection.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

What is the Index in Break and Steal an Egg?

The Index is your animal collection log. Discovering pets fills entries and supports milestone rewards beyond the cash those pets generate in your Pen.

Why should I fill the Index instead of only farming cash?

Milestones can grant meaningful bonuses, and the log tells you which zone rarities you still lack so you do not overfarm completed nests.

Where are Index rewards explained in detail?

Open the Index Rewards guide for a full walkthrough and video. Use this Index Hub for strategy and links into animal and egg tier lists.

Should I sell pets before they appear in the Index?

No. Log unique discoveries first. Sell or merge duplicates after they are registered so you do not erase collection progress.

Does the free Sabertooth Egg help Index completion?

Yes. The Community Rewards Legendary Sabertooth counts toward collection without requiring Swamp Speed, making it one of the best early Index boosts.
