Break and Steal an Egg Index Rewards Guide
Track animals, claim Speed plus Cash, and clear zones systematically for permanent progression.
The Index is Break and Steal an Egg’s collection tracker and one of its best free progression systems. Each animal you discover can be registered and claimed for Speed and Cash. Those claims stack with treadmill farming and Pen income, which means Index work is not a side hobby — it is part of how you afford Trails, pickaxes, and higher Speed gates without waiting on promo codes (there are none active right now).
This guide explains how the Index works, how to claim rewards, why the Chicken example matters, and how to clear zones in order so claims arrive as a steady stream instead of random leftovers.
How the Index works
- Steal an animal species you have not completed yet.
- Bank it / register the discovery in the Index.
- Claim the reward when the entry is ready — you receive Speed and Cash.
- Keep farming duplicates later for Pen income and pet merge triples.
- Move to the next incomplete species in your current zone before teleporting into content you cannot escape.
Index rewards are permanent progression snacks. They will not replace Moonlight Trail, but early claims like Commons dramatically smooth Forest and Desert. Late claims still matter because every Speed point helps Impossible and Brutal bands.
Claim Speed and Cash — Chicken example
A clear early benchmark: Chicken grants 60 Speed and 100 Cash when claimed. That is enough to notice on a new account and enough Cash to chip at Stone pickaxe or White Trail goals. Other animals grant their own Speed and Cash values; always open the Index after a new species so you do not leave rewards sitting unclaimed while you struggle on the treadmill.
Claim checklist:
- After every first-of-species steal, open Index.
- Claim immediately — do not batch for “later” across days if you need Speed now.
- Spend Cash according to failure mode: Trail if escapes fail, pickaxe if breaks fail (trails, pickaxes).
- Return to the treadmill with the new Speed total and an equipped Trail.
Free like/favorite Speed (right of Trails Shop) plus Index claims plus Trail multipliers is the real early Speed stack. See how to get Speed.
Complete zones systematically
Random high-zone tourism is a bad Index strategy. You push huge Speed gates too early, fail steals, and complete almost nothing. Instead, clear bands in order using the zones table:
| Priority | Zone | Why for Index |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Forest (~5 Speed, Easy, Common) | Fast discoveries, Chicken-level claims, low risk |
| 2 | Desert (~1k Speed, Medium, Uncommon) | Next rarity tier once Forest Index is healthy |
| 3 | Snowy (~50k Speed, Hard, Rare) | Rare claims after Speed is ready |
| 4 | Candy (~750k Speed, Extra Hard, Epic) | Epic entries; expect contest |
| 5 | Swamp (~12M Speed, Insane, Legendary) | Legendary Index spikes |
| 6 | Ocean (~150M Speed, Demon, Mythic) | Mythic claims for serious accounts |
| 7 | Hell (~1B Speed, Impossible, Divine) | Divine entries; high Speed gate |
| 8 | Blossom (~5B Speed, Insane, Cosmic) | Cosmic completion |
| 9 | Galaxy (~25B Speed, Brutal, Secret) | Secret/hydra endgame Index |
“Complete” does not always mean 100% before unlocking the next band, but it does mean you should not leave easy Forest Commons unclaimed while dying in Candy for one Epic screenshot.
Index plus Pen plus merge
Think of three parallel collection tracks:
- Index — discovery claims (Speed + Cash).
- Pen — ongoing cash from placed animals.
- Merge — three same species → higher-weight egg at the station beside Invite Friend (press E).
Efficient players claim Index first on a new species, keep farming duplicates for Pen, then merge triples when ready. Skipping Index to rush merges leaves Speed on the table. Skipping merges to worship Index leaves income thin. Do both.
Animal quality still matters for long-term Pens — use the tier list for ranking context as the meta settles — but early Index completion beats early perfectionism.
Speed routing after claims
Index Speed is not fully “live” for difficult steals until you combine it with Trails and treadmill time:
- Claim Index Speed.
- Confirm best Trail is equipped.
- Treadmill so the new baseline multiplies correctly.
- Attempt the steal with a planned exit (how to steal).
Players who claim 60 Speed from Chicken and immediately walk into Desert without White/Blue equipped still fail. The Index is a partner to Trails, not a replacement.
Session plan for Index progress
Fifteen-minute Forest Index push
- Claim free like/favorite Speed.
- Equip White (or best Trail); short treadmill.
- Steal edge Forest eggs with exits planned.
- Bank; open Index; claim new Commons (including Chicken when it pops).
- Merge any ready triples.
- Buy next Trail/pickaxe crumb; repeat.
Mid-game band clear
- Enter a zone only when escapes already work on the previous band.
- Prioritize incomplete Index species over random high-value distractions.
- Claim every new Rare/Epic/Legendary immediately.
- Convert Cash into the Trail tier that makes the next band safe.
Common Index mistakes
- Never opening the Index after a new animal.
- Chasing Galaxy Secrets with empty Forest/Desert completion.
- Spending Index Cash on the wrong shop row while Trails remain unequipped.
- Assuming codes will replace claims — codes stay empty until promos exist.
- Treating Index as cosmetic completion instead of Speed funding.

Open the Index, claim Chicken-style Speed and Cash on every new species, and clear zones in difficulty order. That habit funds Trails quietly while other players wonder why their treadmill feels so slow.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
What does the Index give you?
Claimed animal entries grant Speed and Cash. Rewards vary by species; Chicken is an early example at 60 Speed and 100 Cash.
When should I claim Index rewards?
As soon as a new species entry is ready. Do not leave Speed and Cash unclaimed while you struggle in harder zones.
Should I finish Forest Index before Desert?
Prioritize Forest Commons first for fast, safe claims. You do not need absolute 100% forever, but skipping easy entries for risky unlocks is inefficient.
Does Index replace Trails?
No. Index Speed stacks with equipped Trail treadmill multipliers. Claim, equip, treadmill, then steal.
